Most of those born a Texan stay Texans for life. Yes, even those that might leave the state for a little while for school, jobs, etc. always manage to make their way back. But me? I’m a rebel.
Oh, don’t get me wrong – Texas certainly has it’s perks and charm, and of course living here all my life, you do form attachments. But that said, my heart has for a long time been drawn east (now, this is where I would like to finish the sentence by saying “…so, I’m moving to New England!!” but unfortunately that is not the case), so you can imagine what a joy it has been to have extended family living in the Boston area, which has allowed me enough visits to feel like a local.
Up until this summer, I had not been to Boston since 2015 and hadn’t stepped a foot in Connecticut since 5 years ago – the horrors! So when the opportunity came for a summer trip east, you can bet I was all in. Two weeks spent between Boston, Rockport (MA), and Connecticut was a dream; throw in the food, the bookstores, the sea, and temporarily throwing aside all life’s cares, and you have one amazing trip.
Some of my favorite memories will always be leisurely roaming around Boston; walking miles in the air, humid and still, for a reward of Shake Shack and trying bacon cheesy fries; spending a rainy afternoon in Cambridge, making daily coffee runs, seeing some interesting (read into that what you will…) parts of Boston I had never seen before, discovering the best cannoli ever, passing over the Charles River on a beautifully cool and sunny day, and wishing I were on a sailboat…. Oh my, I could go on and on, but shall spare you any further words and proceed to bombard your screen with photos – enjoy!
P.S. A good part of these were taken with a cell phone – so no further explanations as to the quality needed, right?
Rockport & Manchester-by-the-Sea
Are you still here?
I applaud and thank you for making it through! Tomorrow I will be back with a separate post devoted to one of my favorite (perhaps my absolute favorite?) bookstores, so please check back for… more photos! However, if you’re sick of photos I’m also currently working on a list of some favorite spots, if you happen to be in any of these areas (Boston, Rockport, Connecticut) that I hope to share soon, so stay tuned!
